As an artist, I am inspired to paint
everything around me. Given our technological
advances, I am intrigued by our society’s
desire to re-invoke the ideals of a more
comprehensible period in our history.
Specifically, I am drawn to the
significance that our pin-up girls had during
WWII. During this time, pin-up girls helped
provide the inspiration and motivation for our soldiers to fight and
win the war. These soldiers had a dream to come home
to and I believe pin-up girls have not been
fully appreciated for that contribution. "Worth
fight'n for".
As with all art, there are those
who critique and those who simply appreciate for whatever
response the art evokes in them. Some people wish to
analyze my art for its formal and historical dimensions
and some people think my pin-ups are just “cool.”
Whichever stance the receiver represents, I am focused on
depicting the beauty and sensuality of a significant
iconic image in a dramatic and tumultuous time in our
history. Ultimately, I wish to re-invoke something
that is quintessentially American- old Cadillacs, old
music, and beautiful real women of substance and
character. My passion for art is so enveloping that
when someone recently asked me if I could choose any
profession what would it be. My response was quite
simple: I don't have to choose. I am an
artist. |
